Here is MY list of the top 10 items in hindsight I couldn't live without during the first 6-weeks:
10. Aden + Anais Swaddle Cloths
adenandanais.com
We received these from almost ever other person at the shower and my husband and I thought we had too many! How little we knew.. we go through AT LEAST 2 per day, they are amazing for everything from swaddling to nursing cover and all things in between...
9. Soother/Pacifier
Nuk Canada
Gumdrop
I had no opinion about using a soother going into the birth, but my husband was against them, that was until: 1. Gus was loosing it at the hospital and even the nurse was at a loss, (he was just hungry and my milk hadn't come in, and I couldn't be a 24hr soother) and 2. We read in "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" that some babies just need to suckle (this was our son).
We use the Nuk right now, and sometimes the Gumdrop (this is what they gave us in the hospital), but he has a hard time holding it in his mouth.
8. Medela Freestyle Breast Pump
Best pump ever, bar none. Very much worth the investment. You can't put a price on mental health and this pump allows me to leave knowing that my baby can still be fed.
7. Hands Free Pumping Bra
It's hard to describe why this is so important, but it is.... there is something to be said for being able to drink your morning coffee or pick up your crying baby while pumping. I choose the Simple Wishes bra, but there are lots out there, and I would Highly recommend.
6. Keurig Coffee Machine
Love this. Every morning it's less than 2 mins till my coffee is ready!!
5. Sleepy Wrap
This wrap was invaluable, when our baby was upset, we could put him in this and he would instantly calm down. Do be thrown off by how long the material is, or how complicated it looks, it's not actually that complicated, but I would recommend putting it on a couple of times sans-baby to get the hang of it.
4. Baby Swing
Now I realize that not every baby enjoys these, but ours did and it was a life saver... but my one recommendation is that you get one that reclines like the Graco Infant Swing. We did splurge and get the mamaroo, but I wouldn't say is was a necessary purchase.
3. Strollercise/Infant Massage/Baby Yoga/Breastfeeding clinics etc.
Getting out of the house kept me sane. On the days where we don't leave the house, I feel like they are bad days... Luckily, there are alot of things to keep a new mom busy in Ottawa! Also, I have met some of my best mommy friends through these activities!
2. iphone/ipad
Don't know how I would have survived without these... what do people do that don't have a smartphone at 3am while breastfeeding? or any time while breastfeeding?!?
1. Orbit Baby Stroller System
This stroller system is everything it promised and more.. I don't know how people live without the rotating car seat base! Check out the videos, and if you buy it, you will NOT be disappointed!

Lust List: LV Neverfull PM
For at least two years now I have been coveting the LV Neverfull PM, don't ask me why and I know it is incredibly impractical, but I still drool over it!
