Entering the World of Motherhood

After realizing that most of my friends that are mums have a blog, I figured it was tome for a new post!

So here goes:

On January 3rd, 2012 at 8:32am, we welcomed John Augustus Gloyn, a.k.a. Gus, to the world.  Gus was born by a Csection at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa.  I don't know what I had expected going into the procedure, but I certainly wasn't prepared for the 'out of body' experience.  Strange feeling to feel people touching you but have your pain receptors numb.

Everything went well and by 11am we were in our room, where we'd spend the next 4 days..

Silent Sinus Syndrome

So back in July, I had an ENT appoinment to figure out why I was losing my sense of smell and after a CT scan and a follow up, it was determined that I had Silent Sinus Syndrome.  What the heck is that you ask? Well here is a brief description:

"Silent sinus syndrome is a spontaneous, asymptomatic collapse of the maxillary sinus and orbital floor associated with negative sinus pressures. It can cause painless facial asymmetry , diplopia and enophthalmos. Usually the diagnosis is suspected clinically, and it can be confirmed radiologically by characteristic imaging features that include maxillary sinus outlet obstruction, sinus opacification, and sinus volume loss caused by inward retraction of the sinus walls. Treatment is surgical involving making an outlet for mucous drainage from the obstructed sinus."

And here is an image:

So I was put on the surgery list, and finally had the procedure last Wednesday.
The recovery has been OK, not sure what to expect as there is not alot of information out there.  My neck was incredibly sore the day after, and my face feels like I was a punching bag.

The first two days were good, but yesterday and today, there is alot of pressure and pain.  My left eye is also tender and I have a wicked headache.  I am not sure if this is normal, but I hope so! I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow if it's like this when I wake up.

I have been doing the sinus rinse as instructed, but my nose feels more stuffed up now.  Like I said, not sure if this is normal, there isn't lot of information out there.

Hopefully someone knows something!

Hot Colours: Blue + Orange

So my brother-in-law is getting married and wanted to incorporate the Edmonton Oilers colours.  So while searching, I came across this colour combination.  I LOVE the light blue with the orange, it's so fresh!

Interactive Food Stations

When we were deciding on our midnight buffet, we wanted to do something different.  Originally we were going to have gourmet pizzas, but since we were the last wedding of the year, friends had already used that idea.  So we had to come up with something new!  In the end we did a poutine bar, which was a huge hit! and I would highly recommend.  But here are some other fabulous ideas!:

S'mores Bar

Popcorn Bar

Milk n' Cookies!

Ice Cream/Sundae Bar

Cupcake Bar

So in my need to make sure I have covered everything, I am going to start sharing the things I am doing!

Here is the first:

I was in New York City this past weekend and I happened upon a Vera Wang Sample sale!!! YEAH!!!! Since my goal of the weekend was to get a rehearsal dress, I thought this was the perfect place to start!

So I am looking for comments.. and I am not too sure what to think about the gray wool tights..

Ok so here I am... 14 days away from walking down the aisle... stressing out about every 10mins., thinking I am forgetting something, or that I missed a detail that I wanted to include or that people will be disappointed... does everyone feel like this? I hope not.

So my answer to not stressing out is creating a 17 page detailed itinerary of the days leading up to and including the day-of. Am I crazy, i think so, but if it helps I am all game. So let the fun begin!

Groomsmen Gifts

Ahhh, the inevitable question: What to get your attendents?

Obviously you want to let them know who much they mean to you, so I have found this website, and there are the COOLEST ideas!!

This is if you want to stay away from the traditional:

  • the traditional engraved beer mug, money clip, pen, or flask
  • cologne, watch, or cuff links
  • a round of golf the day of the wedding
  • a baseball cap from their favorite sporting team
  • a cigar(s) and a bottle of their favorite liquor
  • a travel shaving kit stocked full of manly toiletries

My fav so far is the Yeti cooler!
